So, who is Dru? Well, if you’re picturing some mythical paint guru, you’re close! “Dru” actually comes from the initials of our fearless leader, Daniel R. Utter, the lead paint specialist who’s been bringing homes back to life for over two decades. And if you’re really lucky, you might just catch him grooving to some Led Zeppelin or Yes on his portable speaker instead of his headphones while he works!

Dan’s journey into the vibrant world of paint started in a rather unexpected place: as a Registered Nurse in a super busy family practice office. The seed for DRU’s Hues was planted when the doctor he worked for, clearly impressed by his keen eye (and probably his steady hand), gave him the green light to paint and wallpaper her exam rooms during her time off. Talk about a glow-up! These “revitalized” rooms became instant hits with patients, who quickly became Dan’s very first customers 25 years ago. From healing patients to healing walls – talk about a career pivot!

Our History: A Primer for Success

Word of mouth spread faster than a fresh coat of quick-dry paint, and soon Dan teamed up with an old high school buddy who had traded the insurance world for the exciting (and colorful) world of painting. Together, they built a thriving partnership, eventually becoming so swamped with leads they had to split into their own separate businesses. Good problem to have, right?

Today, DRU’s Hues continues to shine under Dan’s expert guidance. While he’s leading his own fantastic team, the spirit of collaboration is still very much alive. Dan occasionally joins forces with his former partner on select projects, bringing along his trusted crew of long-term painters who’ve been with him for years, plus extra skilled help when bigger jobs call for it.
